I fear that a certain arrogance poisons some of our discussions about the intersection between faith and science.  We assume that our perspective alone is the truth or at least comes closest to it.  It’s tempting to dismiss others’ perspectives on God’s creative work as ignorant, unbiblical or, worse, faithless.  So even as I continue to pursue God’s truth, I’m praying for the humility that I desperately need as I consider others’ perspectives.  I’m asking the Spirit to, to use an old cliche, shut my mouth and open my ears.  God’s people with whom I disagree on these matters are, after all, my Christian brothers and sisters whom God created in God’s image, for whom Christ died and in whom the Holy Spirit lives and works.
